Skid Row is a hard rock/heavy metal band that formed in New Jersey in the late 1980s. The original band consisted of Sebastian Bach on lead vocals, Rachel Bolan on bass, Dave 'Snake' Sabo on lead guitar, Scotti Hill on guitar, and Rob Affuso on drums. The group signed to Atlantic Records in the late 1980s, and released their debut album, Skid Row, in 1989. Featured tracks included "18 And Life" and "I Remember You".
The second album, Slave To The Grind (1991), took on a heavier approach, and included the hit title track, as well as "Monkey Business" and the ballad "Wasted Time". An EP of cover tunes, titled B-Side Ourselves (1992), featured a heavy version of The Ramones' song, "Psycho Therapy" and a live version of Judas Priest's song, "Delivering The Goods", in which Rob Halford makes a guest appearance.
Three years later, Subhuman Race (1995), Skid Row's heaviest album to date, featured the hits "Into Another", "Beat Yourself Blind", and "Firesign". The band went on a long tour in support of the album. It would be the last tour with vocalist Sebastian Bach.
In 1996, tensions between Bach and the rest of the band came to a head when Bach wanted to do some tour dates with Kiss on their reunion tour, but the rest of the band refused to tour. Bach and the rest of the band bitterly split shortly after this incident. Bach went on to a solo career, and the other band members disbanded, forming new bands like Ozone Monday and Prunella Scales.
In 1999, Skid Row reformed with Sabo, Bolan and Hill. They chose vocalist Johnny Solinger as their new vocalist and Phil Varone, formerly of the band Saigon Kick, as their new drummer. Without a new album in the works, the band decided to tour. A year later, Skid Row was chosen by Kiss to be one of the opening bands on their "Farewell Tour". The band happily accepted the offer, and toured with Kiss for over a year.
